Freelux Dimmable CFL

Energy saving bulbs, CFLs or compact fluorescent lamps, have been on the market for quite some time now. They offer the same amount of light as regular bulbs while using only a fraction of the energy.

The first generation of energy saving bulbs couldn't  produce the "warm" light that regular bulbs provide. The light quality in later generations of energy saving bulbs has been improved to match the light quality of regular bulbs.  There was only one problem, energy saving bulbs could not be dimmed. When connected to a dimmer, energy saving bulbs would malfunction.

Freelux presents the Dimmable Energy Saving Lamp.

  • The Freelux Dimmable CFL will give you all the capabilities of a regular bulb, while conserving energy and protecting the environment. It is suitable for both trailing and leading edge dimmers.

  • The Freelux Dimmable CFL is dimmable from 100% to 25%, and has an expected lifetime of  6000 hours.

  • When dimmed to 25%, the Freelux Dimmable CFL consumes around 50% less energy compared to when at full power.

  • The Freelux Dimmable CFL produces light equivalent to the light of a regular 75 Watt bulb, while only using 14 Watt.

We have made a comparison between currently availbale lighting options. Based on retail price, average lifespan and average power consumption per year, the total cumulative cost of ownership is calculated. This comparison shows that the Freelux Dimmable CFL claims first place in cost-effectiveness within the first year and will continue to do so for the next 17 years.

* These Calculations are based on current retail price, average lifespan and average power consumption.

The numbers are corrected for time value of money.

NEWS

April 2009:

According to a study by the National Metrology Institute of the Netherlands (VSL) LED-lamps can not live up to promises made by manufacturers. The measured light output in lumens is much lower than advertised. Typically only 25% of the advertised flux was achieved. The total power consumption was higher than advertised. Because of Power factor correction, the actual total power consumption of a typical 5W Led lamp can be as high as 25 Watts. Furthermore, the claim of a life expectancy of 20,000 or even 50,000 hours has not yet been tested or proven in any way. This means that the CFL lamp is still the preferred choice in terms of light production, light quality and power consumption. Read the full article here (dutch) or here (English)

December 2007:

In an effort to conserve energy, the dutch government initiated the Lighting Taskforce, which aims to phase out regular incandescent light bulbs, and promote the use of LED-based bulbs and Compact Fluorescent Lights, like the Freelux Dimmable CFL.
